DEVASTATING COMPLICATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH BRAIN INJURIES

Brain injuries are both deceptive and tragic. That is because many victims of serious brain injuries do not appear to have suffered any physical harm. Injuries to the brain can be sustained in a myriad of different ways that may not result in victims appearing to have experienced physical trauma.

Connecticut residents have suffered traumatic brain injuries in many different forms of accidents, such as vehicle collisions, medical malpractice incidents, and even accidents on playgrounds. Traumatic brain injuries can happen when victims’ brains suffer impact injuries, as can happen when the head hits a dashboard in a car crash, or when victims’ brains suffer penetration injuries, as can happen when a victim is shot.

Even though brain injury victims often appear healthy, their bodies often suffer significant and long-term problems due to the trauma their brains have endured. These are only some of the body systems and functions that can be severely impacted when a victim sustains a traumatic brain injury:

  • Sensory Impairments: Blurry vision, sounds in the ears, unpleasant tastes in the mouth.
  • Mental Indicators: Problems with memory, mood, and depression and/or anxiety.
  • Physical Symptoms: Issues with coordination, numbness, seizures, coma, headaches, and many others.
Depending upon the severity of the brain injury suffered by the victim, some of the associated complications they experience may improve or disappear over time. However, many traumatic brain injury victims must learn to live with permanent impediments from their accidents and must change the ways that they live in order to continue to function.

This post does not provide any medical or legal advice, and it does not advocate for victims of traumatic brain injuries to take particular courses of legal action. Victims facing these and other challenges, though, may wish to discuss their legal options with attorneys who understand the many complications that personal injury victims must cope with in order to live their lives.
