MAN SUES AFTER INJURED BY DEFECTIVE TOILET
A 58-year-old Haitian man is suing his New York City apartment management company after a toilet in the building blew up in his face when he flushed it. Michel Pierre says he needed 30 stitches to close deep wounds on his head, arms and legs after the incident this past October. Four other tenants in the building were also injured in similar accidents the same day. Two of them were taken to the hospital. The toilet involved was a pressurized flush-valve toilet, similar to what you would find in public restroom or private business.
According to Pierre, the water had been turned off earlier in the day to address plumbing issues, as a contractor installed a blackflow prevention valve. When he to see whether the water was working again, the toilet exploded. He is suing Century Management, the building’s management company, for unspecified damages.
